Oregon Flying Fun No. 2 — 2025

Church on the Rise, Roseburg, Ore., Feb. 15

Oregon's traditional fun-fly series made its traditional Roseburg stop on a windless, mild February day that provided opportunities for lots of control-line flying and hangar talk.

As usual, the Roseburg area control-line enthusiasts hosted a delightful event that included a tasty barbecue lunch and a nice array of prizes.  The Church on the Rise flying field now features two grass circles — one including a Carrier deck — as well as an asphalt area  suitable for smaller airplanes.

Participants brought out an array of unusual airplanes to fly on a day with almost no breeze. The field was damp from recent rains but solid enough for plenty of flying.

Those attending included Mike Hazel, Russ Hester, Walter Hicks, Bob Lewis, Terry Mitchell, Bil Mix, Chris Nicholls, Gene Pape, Alan Rader, Stan and Georgie Olzaski, Mark Schluter, John Thompson and Gary Weems, and some others whose names were not recorded.

Next up in the Oregon Flying Fun series is No. 3, in Salem, Ore., on March 15, hosted by the Western Oregon Control-Line Flyers. See Where the Action Is for details.
