Greetings All!
Wow! Winter is beginning to wind down, as I have been noticing a few robins hanging around (a little early, I thought!) and I actually got to go to the flying field with a new profile stunter and test it. it is a modified twister, powered by a K&B 40. its also the first finished project of the year, hopefully with a few others to follow. I have a couple of carrier projects in the works, also a batch of fast combats, a batch of 80 combats, and even a couple of Dbats. (Yikes! thats a lot of balsa!)
I hope to have the new fleet ready soon, as so many of these are almost done. I am looking forward to trying interfacing for covering on the carrier planes, I hear itis very strong, and easily accepts a dope finish. (I'll give a report on this when I get it done)
I am still very busy at work, and may not be able to attend many events this year because of it. there are other things I will have to miss out on too, as I am an avid motorcyclist, and also play guitar in a classic rock band.
I guess my point here, is diversity. I have flown many different events over the years, and continue to do so. I encourage everyone to try something new, as a change can be very refreshing. there are many talented pilots out there who only fly aerobatics, how about a secondary event for you?
I suggest Carrier. it really puzzles me why more stunt pilots don't fly this event. There are enough classifications here that there is bound to be one for everyone here. I believe that there is the notion that all the planes do the "Jim walker prop dance" during the low speed flight, but is not the case as the nostalgia classes just don't fly that way.
There is also the scale aspect of the event, (some more than others.) here's another opportunity to build a beautifully finished and detailed airplane, and be functional too! I have looked at quite a few class 1 and 2 carrier planes with highly detailed instrument panels and markings. I have always thought a class 1 or 2 carrier plane could also double nicely as a scale entry. (I hope to build a class 2 like that myself...)
I remember the Drizzle Circuit days when there was always another event besides the normal racing line up. it was different every month. I remember stunt, slow combat, balloon bust, slow rat, mouse race, and goodyear. (seems to me) and most people also flew the secondary event. the secondary event eventully was dropped because the racing program got really big, and there just wasn't time to get done in 1 day.
Anyway, just some thoughts to ponder, to try and boost participation.
Happy landings!
Snoopy
