Northwest Speed flier Loren Howard dies
Lore n
Howard, a prominent Northwest Speed flier, died on Aug. 12,
2025, according to his nephew, Michael Miller.
He was a long time Portland area resident, but for
several years resided in the small mountain area town of
Ariel, Wash. He had a long career in truck driving, which
included both private companies and the US Postal Service.
His favorite modeling activity centered around Speed
events, mostly the big stuff. He still holds the
long-standing Northwest record for .21 Sport Speed. In
earlier years was also active in Navy Carrier flying. He
also had an interest in RC race cars.
Sometime during the spring he developed some
serious health issues which took him in and out of the
hospital a number of times.
Memorial service information will be posted here as it
becomes available.
