Control-line model aviators in several Northwest
locations put up flights on various kinds of Ringmasters
over the Oct. 4-5 weekend (and surrounding dates) as
part of the worldwide Ringmaster
Fly-A-Thon.
The Brotherhood's John
Cralley gathers flight data from around the world
and compiles a spreadsheet showing what variants of
Ringmasters were flown at the many locations where the
flying took place. Latest flight data is available on
the fly-a-thon
website.
Worldwide report:
Updated!
As of Friday, Oct. 17, the worldwide
tally was 9,305 flights by 506 pilots.

in Auburn, Wash.; Chehalis, Wash.; Adair Village, Ore.,

At least 740 flights were made by at least 58 pilots at

Oct. 5-6, Roegner Park, Auburn, Wash.
The Northwest Skyraiders made 130 flights by 12 pilots
over the Saturday and Sunday.
Multiple airplanes were flown, all the way from a Baby
Ringmaster to our 'Ringmonster' (150% size), a lot of
S-1's, some i.c., many electrics, with some clever power
management strategies. These allowed the minimum flights
of five laps, with landings and stops (no forward motion)
and power up for another 'official' flight, with up to
eight flights on one battery charge!
A very successful two-day activity, with a lot of active
flying, including some maneuvering (two 60° loops ~ one
lap — do the math on 60' lines! We did NOT deduct
laps for any inverted flying!

flying. All said and done the club had about 450 miles of
Ringmaster flying!

Gene Pape's Ringmaster flies at the
Eugene Prop Spinners' summer flying field in Junction
City, Ore., on Oct. 5. Pape's Ringmaster has an
interesting history: It was built by Pat Johnston of
Boise, Idaho, and originally powered with an O.S. FP
.25; then it was owned for a time by Gerald Schamp of
Albany, Ore., who installed an O.S. 26 four-stroke; then
it was owned and flown by John Thompson in Old-Time
Stunt for several years; finally, Gene salvaged the
broken plane from a crash, installed a McCoy .35, and
has flown the plane in fly-a-thon events for several
years. Flying Lines photo.

We had a total of 18 pilots fly this
weekend racking up a total of 114 flights! I
was surprised by the total, but we had a few pilots
who were very ambitious!
