Contest highlight was Rex Abbott having his engine quit while he was flying inverted. He gave down elevator to flip it over, which everybody thought was crazy. To the amazement of all, he succeeded through a great backward-running athletic performance. He made a dandy landing and was enjoying the applause, but didn’t notice how far out of the circle he had run until his airplane struck the corner post of the chain link fence.
Weather report scared off wimps, but weather turned out to be just fine.
